Maheswarnath Mandir is a Hindu temple located in the town of Triolet, Mauritius. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva. The temple was founded in 1888 by Pandit Shri Sajeebunlall Ramsoondur, who came from Calcutta.
Triolet is not only the longest village of the island but also the place where you can visit the biggest Hindu temple, the Maheswarnath Mandir. The Shivala was built in honour of the Gods Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Muruga, Brahma and Ganesha among others.
Founded in 1888 by the priest Pandit Sanjbunlall Ramsoondur, the Maheswarnath Temple is the abode of Lord Shiva and is considered as one of the biggest and oldest temples across the island.
The Temple is also famous for being associated with the first pilgrimage to Grand Bassin, the sacred lake in the centre Mauritius. According to some local legend, a pot of gold and silver belonging to Indian pirates were buried on site and provided the means to build the temple.
