Brief History as per details of temple web site.
In 1969 a group of Hindu-Mauritian workers came up with the idea of having a place of worship on the island of Rodrigues. After nearly one year of perseverance, a four-column dome of 64 sqft area was built at Pointe Canon: the Kailashnath Mandir of Rodrigues Hindu Sabha was inaugurated on the 2nd August of 1970.
The Mandir welcomed several eminent personalities such as the former Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth who during one of his numerous visits to the temple made a noteworthy remark. In 1983, he said: “True Hindu Community and Unity in general is found in this temple, for it assembled all Hindu religious communities in that one and unique sacred place. The temple was reconstructed in 2008 to accommodate growing number of devotees.
